Rationale for why Slideshare should be used in the classroom
Slideshare is a tool that can be used to promote any skill within the classroom when teachers use it to present information or use to introduce a certain topic. Teachers could also create their own presentation that focuses on something specific that they are currently working on with students. Slideshare makes information more engaging for students with pictures and putting the information into a presentation. It also would be beneficial to students to promote technology skills by having the students search for presentations, create their own, or modify current presentations.
Cultural, Ethical, and Societal Issues
Slideshare is a website where you can create slide shows to suit the needs of any culture or society. A person could also search on Slideshare for different presentations related to many different topics, cultures, and societal issue depending on their needs.
Possible Uses of Slideshare in the Classroom and Products
Slideshare could you used for many different things within the classroom.
Assessment Criteria for Student-Created Products
In order to determine if the tool is worthwhile, I would use the following criteria to assess students on a product:
Curriculum Standards
Ohio's 2003 Academic Content Standards for K-12 Technology
Technology Standard 4: Technology and Communication
Grade 5
Indicator 1: Produce a slide show from a storyboard, using text, graphics and sound with appropriate transitions and effects.
Technology Standard 3: Technology for Productivity Applications
Grade 2
Indicator 4: Develop a slideshow presentation with teacher assistance.
Ohio's 2003 Academic Content Standards for K-12 Library
Information Literacy Benchmark E
Grade 4
Indicator 3: Develop a search strategy that uses appropriate and available resources.
Supported Types of Learning
I feel that Slideshare best supports students with technology and communication, technology for productivity
applications, and problem solving. Students can work toward creating a story board by first creating a story board of how the slideshow should be laid out and then use sound and graphics to be able to communicate what they know or what they want someone else to know. Students can also learn how to use productivity applications to develop products for school or to prepare them for their own career. Lastly, the Slideshare website can help students learn how to research and find information using problem solving skills by searching the website to find presentations on certain topics.
Modifications
In order to use this website as a tool within in the classroom, there may need to be some modifications in order to meet the needs of all students. I would modify this lesson for students by walking through step by step what they will be doing using a Smartboard that I have at the front of the class. This way I will have modeled what to do if they students do not have strong technology skills before I send them on their own to do it. I also could walk through step by step with all students as they are creating a slide show or searching for a slideshow so that they will know exactly how to complete a task.
Lesson Plan Analysis and Adaptation
The lesson plan that I chose is called "Language Teaching and Learning: Slideshare Lesson Plan" by Julia P. It can be found at: http://langteachandlearn.blogspot.com/2009/02/slideshare-lesson-plan.html.
Here is the completed Analysis and Adaptation for this lesson: Lesson Plan Analysis and Adaptation Worksheet
Proposed Adaptations for the Lesson
After reviewing this particular lesson, I would have to simplify this lesson for elementary students since it is set for college students. I would do this by having the students only have to create their presentation and upload the presentation. I would take away the students having to create an Audacity file. I could do this as a totally separate lesson to make it more simplistic for students.
Scaffolding Techniques
The scaffolding techniques I could use would be to first include a lesson on how to use Slideshare and provide a demonstration on how to upload a presentation. Another technique might be to start with the students learning how to make a PowerPoint presentation before ever discussing Slideshare. I also could have students review a tutorial that explains to them exactly how to create and upload a presentation.
Where the Tool Will Be Used
This tool will be used in the computer lab with students or could also be used in a regular classroom that has the capability of presenting presentations.
Plan B as Technological Issues Arise
If the computers in the computer lab are not working appropriately, I would use this time to do a tutorial with students on using Slideshare as a whole group using the Smartboard at the front of the class. Also, I may have students work in pairs if some computers are working and others are not. This way they can still be engaged and working toward creating their product.

Assessment Criteria for Student-Created Products
In order to determine if the tool is worthwhile, I would use the following criteria to assess students on a product:
- Creating a presentation - Did the student know how to create a new presentation? (3 points)
- Presentation Content - Does the content include appropriate information? (3)
- Uploading the presentation - Does the student know how to upload their presentation to Slideshare? (2)
- Sharing presentation - Does the student know how to send the link to someone to share their presentation (2)
